Capalent (the "app") helps you practice violin by recording your playing and grading it on tone, tuning, rhythm, and musicality. This page describes what we collect and why.
What we collect
- Account info — email, display name, avatar (when you sign in with email, Google, or Apple).
- Audio recordings — short violin recordings made by tapping Record. Used to grade your playing and show A/B replay against a reference.
- Practice data — pieces and exercises you played, scores, streaks, and timestamps.
- Device info — app version and crash diagnostics for stability.
How we use it
We use the data above to operate Capalent and to analyze how the app is performing and how to improve it. Specifically, we run analytics on:
- Audio recordings — to evaluate and improve our grading models (tone, tuning, rhythm, musicality).
- Practice and product interaction — which exercises are played, scores earned, screens visited, features used.
- Performance and diagnostic data — crash reports, latency, errors, device-class performance.
Where it lives
- Account and practice data: Neon (Postgres) in the United States.
- Audio recordings: Cloudflare R2.
- Crash diagnostics: Sentry.
- Product analytics: Statsig (event-level, no IDFA, no third-party advertising trackers).
What we do not do
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not use your recordings for advertising.
- We do not use IDFA or run cross-app tracking.
Sharing recordings
Recordings you save are private by default. They become visible to people who follow you (in the friends feed) once you complete a take. You can delete your account from Settings → Delete account at any time, which removes your login. Past recordings remain only as anonymous training data tied to a deleted account ID.
Children
Capalent is not directed to children under 13. If you are a parent and believe your child has signed in, contact us at privacy@capalent.com and we will remove the account.
